* Sloth (laziness) — idleness and wastefulness of time allotted
Laziness is often considered a negative quality (see Seven deadly sins), as being unproductive.
On the other hand, moderate laziness might help to prevent people from spending too much time and energy doing unnecessary things; laziness may be a stimulus for finding alternative ways.
Apathy can sometimes be mistaken for Laziness.
Intellectual laziness is a specific form, the tendency not to ask questions, and not to scratch too much behind the apparent, applying a kind of mental routine (availability heuristic) or just following the crowd (herding).

Several of these sins interlink, and various attempts at causal hierarchy have been made. For example, pride (love of self out of proportion) is implied in gluttony (the over-consumption or waste of food), as well as sloth, envy, and most of the others. Each sin is an attenuation of the central Christian sin of failing to love God with all resources and to love fellows as much as self. The Scholastic theologians developed schema of attribute and substance of will to explain these sins.
